As owner of Mona Spa and Laser Center, Mona Sappenfield’s name is synonymous with skincare. While some of Memphis’ most beautiful women have been her clients for years, Mona would never divulge who those women are. Additionally, Mona has a distinct aura about her, and when you see her you know exactly why she’s a master in the beauty industry. Her business card is her skin – it is flawless.
        

Mona recently renovated and expanded her East Memphis location to accommodate a whole new clientele with a large Lifestyle Living Room that engages clients with one another as they wait for services. Ever the Businesswoman, Mona is acutely aware that a younger generation of clients, the so-called soccer moms, openly discusses beauty treatments they get, and are not at all shy about this type of disclosure. Recognizing this fact, Mona created this new space to attract a group. Whether it’s a reserved party or independently scheduled women sharing the waiting area, Mona Spa and Laser Center is now a perfect daytime getaway between morning carpool and afternoon pickup. Additionally, if you are looking for a relaxing weekend escape in the city, you can book the space for your own private party.

In late winter, Mona invited me and a group of friends to tour the unfinished space and test run a few of her ideas. I jumped at the chance and quickly found volunteers for our day of indulgence. We started off by gathering in her Lifestyle Living Room, a space that is cozy and serene due to soothing waterfall sounds and comfortable seating. We received aromatic foot soaks that melted away our stress.

Next, we enjoyed healthy spa cuisine: Bento Box lunches prepared by Chef Ben Adams of Napa Café. Each meal is served in a Japanese-style box and is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of nutritional food plus a little piece of dark chocolate for a nice dose of antioxidants. We had a glass of organic wine before going into our reserved spa treatment.

Mona offers a wide range of treatments including many varieties of facials. Her famous super hydrating Oxygen facial is a must before any special event. Other services include different types of microdermabrasions, chemical peels (I highly recommend the Pro Peel) and almost any kind of laser work you can think of---from skin tightening to hair removal. She also has a nurse practitioner on staff available for injectables, including Botox™, Juvéderm™ and Restylane™.

Mona has just opened a downtown location in the Cadre Building inside Envision Memphis, a personal training gym. Indulge in two convenient locations for a spa experience like no other.
