Botox Stripped Down: New Injectable Xeomin® Hits Shelves

Mona Spa and Laser Center Chosen to Receive the First Limited Shipment of Merz Aesthetics New Botulinum Toxin 

Memphis,TN Oct. 10, 2011 / -- Mona Spa and Laser Center, Memphis’ premier destination for the most advanced skin and laser treatments, will be among the first 100 aesthetic offices in the US to receive Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) for cosmetic use beginning November 2011.

Xeomin®, a Merz Aesthetics product, is being referred to as the "naked injectable" by physicians because it does not contain any additives or complex proteins. The benefit of this, according to Silvia Membreno, RN, Aesthetic Nurse, is that the body is less likely to have an adverse reaction to the treatment than with Botox®. Side effects and efficacy are expected to be similar to other botulinum toxin products.

Xeomin® was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines, more commonly known as frown lines between the eyebrows, in adult patients. This approval was based on two clinical trials that found that Xeomin® significantly improved the appearance of glabellar lines 30 days following the first injection.

Xeomin® will be available in dermatology offices and Medical Spas around the United States in the spring of 2012; however, Mona Spa and Laser Center will be offering the treatment as early as November 2011. It is also approved for the improvement of glabellar lines in 14 countries in Europe under the brand name Bocouture.
